Through the stories of three women, real and imagined, Dead Equal celebrates the courage and sacrifice of women in theatres of war, probing the cost of frontline service, the pressure of gendered expectations, and the power of female agency forged in blood and sweat.
Dead Equal was conceived in the wake of the 2016 decision to allow women into full combat roles within the British Army; earning high praise at its first showcase from UK opera leaders including Judith Weir, David Pountney and Mark Wigglesworth. In August 2019, marking the British Army’s ‘Year of the Woman’, a full length premier will be presented in Edinburgh by Army@TheFringe
