Description:

This concert forms part of the UK presentation of Still Life, Música d'Outrora's debut album, and brings the recorded programme into the live space for which much of this music was conceived. The project focuses on early 17th-century chamber repertoire, a period of rapid experimentation in which composers explored new expressive possibilities through bold harmony, contrast, and instrumental colour.

The programme traces the development of the fantastic style across Europe, from the daring sonatas of Dario Castello in Venice to works by Schmelzer, Buxtehude, Fontana, Stradella, and others, alongside solo keyboard and plucked-instrument repertoire by Strozzi, Kapsberger, Sanz, and Caccini. Performed on period instruments, the music moves freely between sacred and secular contexts, virtuosic display and introspection, reflecting a moment when instrumental music began to speak with a new rhetorical and emotional intensity.
